NOTICE TO PARENTS/GUARDIANS
RECORDING OF EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES

Dear Parent/Guardian,

 

In order for South San Francisco Unified School District to continue to provide your student with access to high quality education and the most effective tools and applications for learning, in accordance with guidance from the State of California and the California Department of Education, South San Francisco Unified School District is implementing a distance learning program that will allow South San Francisco Unified School District to deliver virtual instruction to your student. To facilitate the delivery of educational instruction and related services to your student, South San Francisco Unified School District will use Zoom Video Conferencing and Google Meet which are operated by a third party:
 
This letter serves to provide you with notification that the South San Francisco Unified School District may conduct video and/or audio recording of educational activities that South San Francisco Unified School District delivers through the above-referenced communication platform for purposes of documenting delivery of online instruction to students. Such educational activities include, but are not limited to, group lessons and student-teacher meetings. South San Francisco Unified School District will maintain the confidentiality of such recordings and will only re-disclose any such recordings in accordance with applicable law.

 

When a South San Francisco Unified School District employee invites your student to virtual class sessions or other group educational activities via such communication platforms, by allowing your student to participate in such group activities, you acknowledge that the activity will include other students. You also acknowledge that third parties, such as parents, may observe such activities. In such cases, South San Francisco Unified School District will take reasonable steps to avoid disclosure of personally identifiable information from your student’s educational records to third parties that do not have legitimate educational interests in obtaining such information.

 

If you do not want your student to use the above-referenced communication platforms for educational purposes, please complete the Opt-Out Request portion of this Google Form and click “submit.” Once your Parent Opt-Out Request is processed by South San Francisco Unified School District, The Educational Services Department will reach out to you regarding alternative options for delivery of learning activities.
